Title: Big Data and Machine Learning under the Leaning Tower

Speaker and Affiliation: Raffaele Perego (HPC Lab, ISTI-CNR, Pisa)

Date: Monday 25th, 10:30

Time: 10:30

Room: 105 (Auditório do INE)

Abstract: In the talk we will first introduce HPC Lab research group at ISTI-CNR in Pisa and the H2020 Marie Slodowska-Curie European Project MASTER involving HPC Lab and UFSC with the objective of forming an international and inter-sectoral network of researchers working on multiple-aspects semantic trajectories. In the second part of the talk we will survey some recent research results of the group in the field of efficient algorithms for big data analytics and machine learning. The talk will focus on different application fields — e.g., ranking in web search, indexing of semantic data, event attendance prediction from social media — characterised by demanding requirements for scalability, efficiency and effectiveness.
